Celebrating the Groundbreaking for Fisher House Orlando VA Medical Center

Celebrating the Groundbreaking for Fisher House Orlando VA Medical Center

A groundbreaking for Fisher House at Orlando VA Medical Center, Lake Nona was held on 30 November 2016. The Fisher House program provides a “home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. The Orlando VA Medical Center Fisher House will be located on the grounds of the medical center in Lake Nona and will accommodate up to 16 families on any given day. Built on the premise that “a family’s love is good medicine,” a Fisher House unites families when a loved one is ill or injured, relieving the financial and emotional strain of being away from home.

There were a number of guests of honor at the Fisher House Orlando groundbreaking. Fisher House Foundation Chairman and CEO of the Fisher House Foundation, Ken Fisher was joined on the dais by: the Under Secretary of the ArmyThe Honorable Patrick J. Murphy; Orlando’s VA Medical Center Director, Timothy W. Liezert; former Fisher House Guest, Becky Ziegel; and United States Army (retired) service member, Manuel Colón. These special guests along with Fisher House Foundation Trustee, Tammy Fisher and local fundraiser Gregory Smith of Friends of Fisher House Orlando, participated in the groundbreaking, lifting their shovels to get the Fisher House Orlando project started.

Construction of this Fisher House is supported by: Friends of Fisher House Orlando, an established 501(c)3 charitable organization working to bring the local community, Veterans Service Organizations, corporations, charitable foundations, and individuals together to fulfill our sacred obligation to those who have served our Armed Forces.
